April 10 – The financial turmoil and instability at Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia has taken a new turn with major shareholder Alexander Tomov saying that he has filed an application to quit his post as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the club and no longer continue as a shareholder.

He added that on April 2, he transferred his shares to a person designated by the new investors.

CSKA fans have been demanding for some time that Tomov leave his post and transfer his shares. Fans of the Reds had put forward preferred businessmen Milko Georgiev and Borislav Lazarov, who are associates with Julian Indzhov and Peter Madzhukov who looked as though they had bought the club last week but then pulled out.

Georgiev is the owner of cska-live.tv, the club’s television channel.

“On March 30, I informed the Executive Director of PFC CSKA my desire to reclaim the post of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the club. On April 2, after a meeting with leaders of the main fan fractions, I gave consent to transfer my stake. I believe that with these my actions I do a reasonable and realistic step aimed the further development of our favorite team, ” said Tomov in a statement.

“My exit from the club does not mean that I refuse to help in the future. CSKA is great, the greatest Bulgarian club. Its rescue, survival and progressive development is the responsibility of everyone who is zealous for the preservation of historical, cultural and sporting values of Bulgaria.”
