April 13 – German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg has secured a new sponsorship deal with Germany’s insurance group WWK Versicherungsgruppe. The insurer will tale over as the club’s main sponsor in a deal estimated to be worth €3 million per year.
The WWK Versicherungsgruppe logo will go on to team shirts starting with the 2015/2016 season, replacing German manufacturer Alois Kober in a three-year deal.
Although no official figures were disclosed, the new deal is believed to be a 33% increase in sponsorship revenues over the previous figure of €2 million per year, according to local daily Augsburger Allgemeine.
Jurgen Schrameier, the chief executive of WWK Versicherungsgruppe, said that the company perceives FC Augsburg as “an ideal partner to improve its image”.
FC Augsburg plays in the 1. Bundesliga, and currently lies sixth out of the 18 teams competing in the top tier. The club plays at the 30,600 capacity SGL Arena.
