Red Star-Partisan derby features stun grenades, flares and arrests

Red Star vs Partisan

April 27 – It’s known as the ‘eternal derby’ featuring one of the most notorious rivalries in European football. And once again it has been marred by crowd trouble.

Serb football has had its fair share of fan violence and is reeling from the latest violent clashes that caused the start of the latest Red Star-Partisan showdown in Belgrade to be delayed for 45 minutes.

Fans threw missiles, including stun grenades, at police inside the Red Star Stadium, with 41 supporters arrested and 35 police officers injured.

In May 2013, 104 arrests were made after violent clashes while last season Partizan, who finished second in the league, ended up in the Champions League after Red Star were thrown out for failing to pay its debts.
