Adidas adds another 10 years and £900m to Bayern sponsorship

Bayern and adidas

May 2 – Newly crowned Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, have announced a ten year extension of their deal with kit supplier Adidas. The new deal extends the current deal, which had been due to run until 2020, up until 2030.

Reports suggest the new deal is worth €900 million (£645 million), making it somewhat less lucrative than Adidas’ deal with Manchester United, despite Adidas holding an 8.33% stake in the Bavarian club.

Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen said: “With the contract extension until 2030 adidas continues its decades-long successful partnership with FC Bayern München.”

“The commitment also underlines our new strategy. We will still focus more in future on partnerships with selected top clubs and associations in international football and with young, aspiring players.”

According to reports in the German media, the existing contract was renegotiated in order to bring payments closer to what has become the benchmark Manchester United deal – the existing contract with Bayern was only worth about €25 million per season.
