May 20 – Elisabeta Lipa, the chief executive of Dinamo Bucharest, has unveiled plans to demolish its Stefan cel Mare stadium and build a new sports facility with a total capacity of 30,000.
“We have obtained a permission from the Ministry of Development,” Lipa told local broadcaster Dolce Sport. “We are planning a stadium fitted with 30,000 seats, a modern stadium.”
Currently, the Romanian side is drafting project documentation, according to its chief executive.
In 2020 Bucharest will host, along with 12 other European cities, group matches on the UEFA European Championship. Construction work on the new stadium would be completed before Euro 2020.
Last year, local media reported that Inut Negoita, the club’s owner, has launched negotiations on the sale of his majority share in Dinamo. Negoita said he was speaking with two foreign-based investors on a potential deal which would see him withdraw as majority shareholder.
The Bucharest-based club currently competes in the Liga I, the top tier of Romania’s professional football league. Dinamo’s achievements include 18 Romanian championships, 13 Romanian Cups, as well as two Super Cups.
