May 22 – Italy’s AS Roma is rumoured to be in negotiation with the owners of Korona Kielce on the potential acquisition of the Polish club. The Rome-based side began talks with the municipality of Kielce, which owns Korona, three months ago, according to local reports.

“We are obliged to keep the negotiations confidential but, as the Italians have already spoken about this, I can confirm that we have been … in talks with AS Roma on selling Korona,” said Mayor of Kielce Wojciech Lubawski. “They want to buy 100% of the shares.”

The amount of the potential deal was not disclosed by the city’s authorities.

“The Italians have witnessed several matches played by Korona. They know the squad’s capacities, they have seen our infrastructure, they were also interested in our supporters,” Lubawski said.

Set up in 1973, the Kielce-based side owns its 16,500 capacity stadium. Denmark’s Hummel is the club’s current kit supplier.

Korona is currently ranked 10th out of the 16 teams competing in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Poland’s professional football league.

Lubawski said that the negotiations are likely to be accelerated if Korona stays in the Ekstraklasa for the 2015/2016 season.
