June 1 – Austria Wien has unveiled the design of its new stadium which is to be developed under a project worth €48 million. Under the plan, the Vienna-based side will launch the build in May 2016.
The construction is expected to be completed by summer 2018, reports Der Standard. The club’s Generali Arena will be expanded to a total capacity of 17,500. This would represent a significant improvement on the current capacity of its Franz Horr Stadion, which is about 14,000.
Targeting a boost in match day revenues, Austria Wien plans to significantly expand the number of VIP lounges to a total of 38, according to data released by the club.
During the construction works on the side’s new stadium, the club will host its home matches at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna, said Markus Kraetschmer, the club’s chief executive.
In the 2014/2015 Austrian Bundesliga season, Austria Wien is currently ranked 7th in the 10-team division. Some of the club’s major achievements include 24 Austrian championships, 27 Austrian Cups, and six Super Cups.
