June 11 – After a traumatic two weeks, it is almost business as usual at CONCACAF. Today national teams qualified for the Gold Cup announced their provisional 35 player rosters for the July tournament. While on the commercial side the confederation for north and central America and the Caribbean announced a new Gold Cup sponsor.
Jarritos has signed up to become the Gold Cup 2015 Official Soda, taking over from previous sponsor 7Up.
CONCACAF has set up a special committee comprised of the presidents of the US, Mexican and Canadian federations (Sunil Gulati, Justino Compean and Victor Montagliano) to oversee the business of the confederation in what is a crucial period of stabilisation following the arrests of president Jeffrey Webb and executive committee member and Costa Rican president Eduardo Li.
An important first task has been to ensure the integrity of the Gold Cup brand and that gains made in the marketing of the competition were not lost. The announcement of the Jarritos sponsorship comes as welcome confirmation that the market is still there.
Jarritos, is a North American brand of carbonated soda sold widely in the US market. Its parent company Novamex, will undertake the sponsorship.
The brand joins Allstate, Delta Air Lines, Sprint and Telcel as a sponsor of the Gold Cup, along with CONCACAF partner Scotiabank.
“We are happy to welcome Jarritos as an official sponsor of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015,” said CONCACAF Acting General Secretary Ted Howard. “Like CONCACAF, Jarritos and the Novamex brands embrace the fusion of cultures that fuels our shared passion for soccer – the same passion which will continue to drive the success of the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.”
This is the first time Jarritos has sponsored a CONCACAF event. Novamex, a private company based in El Paso, Texas, owns the Jarritos brand and the rights to market its products outside of Mexico.
“We are excited to sponsor the CONCACAF Gold Cup … It is a great opportunity for our brands, Jarritos, Sidral Mundet, Sangria Señorial and Mineragua to gain incremental exposure with soccer fans across the USA,” said Eric Delamare, Marketing Director for Novamex.
The 12-team 2015 Gold Cup kicks off on July 7, with a double header at Toyota Park outside Dallas, Texas. The tournament will visit 12 cities in the US and Toronto in Canada. New York/New Jersey will host the quarterfinals, and Atlanta the semifinals, with Philadelphia hosting the third place match, and the final on Sunday, July 26.
