July 13 – It is said that no player is bigger than the club, and this is especially so at the big clubs. But some players, even within the ‘legends’ category, have a special status. Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs is one of those and the club has used his fame and achievements to open a special exhibition.
Titled Ryan Giggs: The man for all seasons, the exhibition has opened at the Manchester United Museum & Tour and covers his 23 years of playing from the club since his debut 1991, up to his current role as assistant manager.
Giggs made 963 appearances for United, scoring 168 goals. The exhibition features memorabilia from his career comprising over than 40 items, including Giggs’ Treble medals, his FIFA Club World Cup medal and the ball from his first Manchester United goal.
The interactive exhibition allows visitors to zoom in and examine up close some of his medals as well as view several specially recorded interviews where he details his personal career highlights. There is even a quiz about his career at United.
“I have spent my whole career at the same club and I am proud to have played a part in United’s achievements over the past few decades…Many of the items on display have never been exhibited and the ones I have chosen to loan to the museum are the ones that mean the most to me,” said Giggs.
The Manchester United Museum and Tour is an award winning attraction, with “hundreds of thousands” of visitors passing through its doors each season.
Manchester United Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold said: “There are very few players who can boast a CV like Ryan’s. He is one of the most decorated British sportsmen of our time with a career spanning across more than two decades. His achievements are a big part of the Club’s history and the Museum’s dedicated exhibition gives fans a chance to relive some of those celebrated moments.
