August 27 – Following the club’s return to Italy’s Serie B, Italy’s second tier, Ascoli Picchio FC has unveiled detail of a planned €12 million stadium redevelopment.
Under the scheme, the overhauled facility will have a capacity of between 15,000 and 18,000, reports local daily Corriere Adriatico.
In addition, the modernised Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca will also host a sports bar restaurant, and will have expanded commercial space is to allow the Italian side to launch a new fan store and create additional streams of revenue for the club.
Ascoli Picchio secured promotion to the Serie B following the 2014/2015 season. With its move to the higher tier, the club said that it needed to make its existing facility, which was built in 1962, more modern.
The latest project was jointly unveiled by Mayor of Ascoli Guido Castelli and Francesco Bellini, the president of Asoli Picchio.
The white-blacks hope that an upgraded stadium will also contribute to the side’s efforts to return to Italy’s Serie A in which Ascoli Picchio competed in the 2005-2007 period.
