August 28 – Manchester United again top the weekly Insideworldfootball Twitter growth table in a week that saw overall growth across all Premier League club twitter activity, resulting in an overall increase in followers of 0.63% compared to 0.57% the previous week.
There was also a big increase in the growth in tweets up from 0.38% to 0.79%.
In numbers terms this is a total increase in new followers this week of 196,493 as opposed to 176,594 last week, but still below the season’s opening week high of 276,840.
The number of tweets up more than doubled to 5,914 from 2,818 last week and close to the 6144 tweets in opening week.
The unstoppable weekly growth of Man Utd has been highlighted before and now the club has Chelsea, second in the over follower table, firmly in its sights. Man Utd closed the gap from 126,285 to 105,433 putting them now within 1.75% of Chelsea.
Chelsea in turn are losing ground on leaders Arsenal and are now 229,228 (3.67%) behind. Man Utd closed the gap again on Arsenal with the difference now 334,661 as opposed to 353,203 the previous week.
When it comes to the number of tweets made in a week Man Utd generally lag at the bottom of the table, but this week they came out of their shell and rocketed up to third position with 388 tweets. Just 28 behind table toppers and local rivals Manchester City.
Liverpool were uncharacteristically quiet, languishing at the bottom of the table with just 178 tweets. Perhaps the social media team were just giving their manager a bit of ‘space’.
