August 11 – Manchester United have continued their chasing down of the leadership positions in Insideworldfootball’s Twitter rankings, closing to within 60,000 followers of Chelsea in a slower week of Twitter gains but which saw the reds increase their following by 32,000 against Chelsea’s 16,000.

With the international break over and a return to Premier League action, it can be expected that there will be higher increases in both followers to clubs and tweets from clubs over the coming week.

Overall the growth in tweets this week were down from 0.54% to 0.29% reflected in a drop in growth of new followers from 0.67% to 0.40%.

In real numbers new followers to all Premier League clubs were 127,335, down from 210,392 last week. The total number of tweets made by clubs were at 2,170, down from 4,021 last week.

Bournemouth’s progress to a six figure follower number faltered with only 1,479 new followers, but they are consistently beating fellow Premier League newcomers Watford who had just over 1,000 new followers.

Far cry from the heady heights of Liverpool, for example, who put on 16,150 new followers, 42 more than Chelsea.

Man Utd is now within 300,913(4.79%) followers short of Arsenal and within 33,056(0.55%) of Chelsea. Will they overtake Chelsea next week?

In terms of tweets Manchester City again worked the hardest with 226. Man Ut d are trending to becoming little less tight-lipped and were ranked 10th in the table with just over 100 tweets.

Newcastle United seem to have taken a holiday this week, tweeting just 34 times. Not many tweets for a club nicknamed the Magpies.
