Premier League fans kick rugby into touch as they fill their grounds

Swansea fans

September 21 – The start of the Rugby World Cup in England has not dampened enthusiasm for Premier League soccer with the league recording the highest capacity percentage (96.07%) overall since the opening day of the season.

Nine out of 10 Premier League clubs recorded capacities of over 90% full, with eight of them being over 96% full.

Of a total 366,826 tickets available just 16,474 seats were unfilled with Aston Villa (6,457 unfilled) and Newcastle United (4,559) accounting for the bulk.

Even so, both clubs experienced a slight increase in their attendances.

Swansea (reporting an attendance of five more than their official capacity), Stoke and Chelsea were the most efficient with barely a free seat to be found at any of their stadia.

The Insideworldfootball stats are taken from the club’s reported attendance figure. They do not take account of tickets that might have been sold but the ticket holder did not turn up. Also, for some games stadiums will have slightly reduced capacities due to media and safety requirements.
