October 2 – As a result of increased interest in the home matches played by Estonia’s national team, the country’s government is planning to spend about €5 million with the aim of increasing the capacity of A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn to about 15,000 seats.

The project is to be completed in 2018 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Estonia’s independence, reports local news site Delfi.ee.

Under the plan, the sports facility will add an additional 5,000 seats, prompted by the rising popularity of Estonia’s national team whose home matches are often sold out.

Currently, the sports facility, which can host a maximum of 10,300 spectators, hosts the home games of Flora Tallinn which competes in the country’s top league, the A. Le Coq Premium Liga. The stadium was opened in June 2001, and is owned by the Estonian Football Association (EJL).

As well as the naming rights to the league the Estonian beverage producer A. Le Coq holds the naming rights to the stadium. The company makes a wide range of beer and other alcoholic beverages, juices, waters and soft drinks, according to data from A. Le Coq.
