October 15 – Norwegian side Sandnes Ulf has confirmed its long-awaited plans to open a new stadium to support its efforts to secure promotion back to the country’s top tier. But the wait isn’t over as the stadium will not be completed until 2018.
The stadium build will cost NOK 150 million (€16 million).
The project design was prepared by local architectural firm Plank Arkitekter. Under the plan, the stadium will have a total floor space of 4,500 sq. m., and will seat 7,582 spectators under a roof. In addition, the stadium will be enabled to be expanded to accommodate a further 2,023 spectators.
The new facility will significantly enhance the club’s revenue generating capabilities as its current stadium, built in 1927, has a capacity of just 4,969 spectators.
Sandnes Ulf currently competes in the second tier Norwegian First Division. The club was relegated following the 2014/2015 season of the Tippeligaen after three subsequent seasons played in Norway’s top tier.
Danish sports apparel brand Hummel is as the side’s technical sponsor.
