Mourinho’s ‘special’ outburst lands him back in the stands as pressure mounts

November 3 – Under-fire Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, the self-styled ‘Special One’ who is suffering the worst spell of his coaching career, has been hit yet with yet another sanction amid reports that he is being sued personally by former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro.

Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium ban with immediate effect and also fined £40,000 by the Football Association after he admitted a misconduct charge over his language and behaviour in the defeat by West Ham on October 24.

Mourinho was sent to the stands after going to speak to the referee at half-time and will now miss Chelsea’s league game at Stoke on Saturday unless he appeals.

The stadium ban is separate to the suspended one he already received for comments made after the loss to Southampton on October 3.

In addition to his disciplinary problems with the FA, Mourinho has been criticised for his treatment of Carneiro who was dropped from first-team duties after Mourinho said she was “naive” for treating Belgian midfield star Eden Hazard on the opening day of the season. She is suing the club for constructive dismissal and Mourinho is reportedly himself the subject of individual legal action.

On the eve of the Champions League fixture with Dynamo Kiev which he played down as a must-win game, Mourinho looked distinctly uncomfortable as he was forced to fulfill his managerial duties under UEFA rules by speaking to the media. He rejected claims that there was a player revolt at the Premier League champions who lie 15th in the table having lost six of their first 11 league matches this season.

“It’s a very sad accusation because you are accusing players, or one player, of dishonesty,” said Mourinho.

He insisted he was treating the current crisis with dignity, only to respond to a number of questions with monosyllabic answers and saying he could no longer learn anything from other coaches because of the level he himself had reached in the game.
