November 8 – The President of three-times European Cup winners Internazionale has been elected chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee.
Erick Thohir, the Jakarta-born businessman who succeeded Massimo Moratti as Inter President two years ago, beat his only rival for the Olympic post by 59 votes to 46 in an election at the Jakarta Sheraton.
Thohir took the helm at the Milan football giant after an entity led by him, International Sports Capital, acquired 70% of the club. The 45-year-old also has a stake in Major League Soccer club D.C. United, as well as serving as President of the Southeast Asia Basketball Association.
Thohir’s family owns the holding company, TNT Group, which has interests in various sectors, including coal, automotive, media and property.
Under former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, enjoying his second managerial stint at the club, Inter have made a strong start to the 2015-16 season with Sunday’s win at Torino taking their Serie A points tally to 27 from 12 games.
