December 1 – West Ham United again topped the table of attendance capacities last weekend with just 103 seats at the Boleyn Ground unfilled out of a total of 35,017. Seven Premier League teams reported more than 95% capacity attendances at their stadiums.
It was a week that saw the total number of tickets sold to Premier League matches top 5 million. Out of 5,259, 214 seats available at Premier League matches in the first 14 rounds of the season, 210,881 have been unfilled. The average attendance capacity at Premier League grounds is 95.55%.
If you include Spurs, fourth in the table, the top four teams had less than 1,000 seats unfilled out of a combined total available of 130,806.
In contrast Aston Villa had 7,731 seats unfilled and Sunderland 7,484. Both clubs are consistently coming at the bottom of the attendance and both teams have struggled at the bottom of the Premier League this season, though Sunderland look to be finding some form under new manager Sam Allardyce.
Both clubs have larger stadiums to fill that the top four ranked clubs – the Stadium of Light has a 49,000 capacity while Villa Park is 42,788.
The Insideworldfootball stats are taken from the club’s reported attendance figure. They do not take account of tickets that might have been sold but the ticket holder did not turn up. Also, for some games stadiums will have slightly reduced capacities due to media and safety requirements.
