Prince Ali says two terms is enough for the FIFA top job

December 18 – The next FIFA president should not be in power for longer than two terms, according to Jordan’s candidate, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, who lost last time to Sepp Blatter.

The FIFA executive committee earlier this month approved wide-ranging proposals which will now go to the full congress for rubber-stamping including limiting the term the FIFA president and other senior officials can serve to three terms, or 12 years.

But in an interview with the Russian news agency Tass, Prince Ali said it had to be two terms for the man at the top.

“I do believe that a two-term limit should be the maximum. And it also gives an opportunity for new ideas, new people to come in,” said Prince Ali.

Prince Ali, who lost to Blatter by 133 votes to 73 in May, does not have the backing of his own Asian confederation but defies those who believe he has no chance next time.

“I think that because we had only a few months at the first time it was difficult to make an impression or to get everybody to know who I am whether it’s the public, national associations and so on.”

“But I think that for me that this is the continuation of the journey that I am determined to finish – and I will do that.”
