January 5 – China’s Super Sports is now 30 days into its 38-day English Premier League ‘carnival’. The Chinese broadcast rights holder has been promoting the league and its clubs with events focussed in the Aegean Shopping Mall based in Tianjin.
Super Sports chose Tianjin because of the impressive TV ratings it has generated for the Premier League in the Eastern Chinese city.
Super Sport is the exclusive Premier League broadcast rights holder and has full access to all 380 matches per season.
The five week-long carnival has featured themed activities around five clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
On January 2, Liverpool legend John Barnes arrived in Tianjin to take part in a number of activities including meet and greet events, as well as watching Liverpool’s first league match of 2016 with fans.
Barnes lead a five-player delegation of former Liverpool players with the aim of promoting football exchange between the two countries and enhancing Liverpool’s foothold in China.
