January 6 – The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) has agreed a five-year strategy for the region aimed at the development of women’s and youth football. There will also be an emphasis on technical development across the member countries.

CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye (pictured right), said that CECAFA will stage four competitions this year and overhaul its statutes to ensure that there is discipline at all levels within the 12 member association.

In meetings held in Khartoum, Sudan, CECAFA outlined its plans for the year that include the integration of women and youth in all its activities and the organisation of four technical courses this year.

CECAFA confirmed that Uganda will stage the Under 17 and Women’s Championship this year, while Burundi will stage the Under 20s. It was also confirmed that the Kagame Club cup will be held in Zanzibar and the Senior Challenge Cup in Sudan.

As part of its evolving structure, the new executive committee, chaired by Dr. Mutasim Gafar of Sudan (pictured left), committed to a review of its current statutes and regulations stating that “the old statutes have to be overhauled to bring in dynamism and deal with indiscipline appropriately.”

Separately CECAFA agreed to sign an MoU with the Saudi Arabian FA for an exchange programme focused on youth football and development.

As part of its revamped structure, Somali FA president Abdigani Arab Said was appointed as a vice president and current chairman Leodegar Tenga was appointed Honorary Chairman.
