January 22 – Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City lead the stadium capacity charts for round 21 and 22 of the Premier League season. Round 21 was played mid-week after a weekend of FA Cup fixtures and saw the poorest round of attendance figures so far this season.
More than 30,000 seats were left unfilled in Round 21 with 14,543 of them at Aston Villa. The club filled just 66% of the Villa Park capacity, the first time a Premier League club has dipped below 70% this season for a league fixture.
Southampton also had a poorer than usual mid-week gate with 4,290 seats unfilled.
Newcastle United were also at their lower levels in Round 21 with 5,732 seats unfilled, but bounced back at the weekend with another home fixture that saw the stadium capacity jump back over 95% full.
Villa also improved slightly in Round 22 to 76% of capacity.
Round 22 saw nine of the 10 home teams at over 90% full, seven of them over 95% full, comparing to seven and six teams in round 21.
