December 14 – UEFA President Michel Platini (pictured) unveiled the official logo and slogan to be used at Euro 2012 in Kiev today.

The logo is a design of two tulips – one red and one white – featuring the Polish and Ukrainian flags and a football, and the slogan is “Creating History Together”.

Platini said: “These are two flowers which bloom, I hope that Poland and Ukraine will grow like them.”

Euro 2012 is the first major football tournament to be awarded to Eastern Europe.

The logo and slogan were presented by Polish Football Association President Grzegorz Lato, his Ukraine counterpart Grigoriy Surkis and Platini at a ceremony in Kiev’s Mykhailivska Square.

Surkis said: ”I think the logo is very special and it shows the soul of our two peoples.

“When I see the colours of the Ukrainian flag in it, my heart fills with pride and happiness.”

Lato said: ”It is of tremendous importance for such a worldwide event to have such a beautiful logo.

“It gives a flavor of the competition and of our two countries.

“The slogan also contains a clear message that Poland and Ukraine are ready to surprise the world and will deliver a unique experience to visitors in the summer of 2012.”

Guests at the ceremony included Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
