USA World Cup bid receives more Hollywood support

June 8 – Actress Charlize Theron is supporting Brad Pitt’s bid to see the US host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Pitt, 46, recently announced he has joined the Board of Directors for the committee putting the US bid together.

Theron, 34, added that she would also like the see the US host the month-long competition again after last hosting it in 1994.

She said: ”It would be amazing. I think it would be incredible for the sport.”

Theron, who won an Oscar for her performance in North Country, co-presented the draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Cape Town last December accompanied by several other celebrities of South African origin.

Theron is hoping a good performance from the US, whose opening match of the tournament is against England on Saturday (June 12), will boost their bid.

She said: ”If the [US] plays well – fingers crossed – it could really change things and it could be great for the sport here.

“I’m all for it.”
