July 8 – Danny Jordaan (pictured), the organiser of South Africa 2010, will not have any opportunity to rest after the end of the tournament as he will be jetting off a 11 nations tour as part of the FIFA inspection team who will evaluate the nine bidders to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cup.
He is a controversial member of the six-man team headed Harold Mayne-Nicholls, President of the Chilean Football Association.
The South African’s inclusion the six-man team has upset several of the bidders because of his perceived close links to England, including having former Football Association executive David Davies as part of his World Cup advisory staff, and has been linked himself with a role on the England campaign team.
The rest of the team will be made up of Juergen Mueller, the head of event management at FIFA; David Fowler, the head of FIFA marketing; Julio Avellar, the coordinator in the FIFA World Cup office; and Wolfgang Eichler, FIFA’s senior communications advisor at the World Cup in South Africa.
The three-day inspections to each country begin on July 19 in Japan and then travel to South Korea on July 22 and Australia on July 26.
The team will then travel to Europe to visit Belgium and the Netherlands on August 8, Russia on August 16, England on August 23 and Spain and Portugal on August 30.
They will finish their worldwide tour by visiting the United States on September 6 and Qatar on September 13.
The team will then produce an evaluation report that will be used to help the FIFA Executive Committee members decide who to choose for 2018 and 2022 at their meeting in Zurich on December 2.
