April 21 – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has announced the formation of a board of directors for the organisation of the 2022 World Cup, which will be the first time the tournament is held in the Middle East.
The committee will include Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani and Youssuf Hussein Kamal.
And it is understood to be headed by 31-year-old Hassan al-Thawadi, a key member of the team which brought the World Cup to Qatar.
With the local Organising Committee to be organised in the coming weeks, the board of directors will take responsibility for overseeing their work.
Each individual on the committee will serve four year terms.
