April 27 – FIFA President Sepp Blatter has sent a personal message to Prince William and Kate Middleton ahead of the Royal Wedding on Friday (April 29).

The Prince, 28, is President of the Football Association (FA) and was a member of the 2018 World Cup bid team that delivered the final presentation to FIFA ‘s executive committee at the vote in December.

Blatter, who stands for re-election on June 1, thanked the Prince for the support he has shown to football, particularly at grassroots level.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you…for the passion and commitment you have shown for the game of football,” wrote Blatter according to FIFA’s website.

Some will doubtless question the motive for Blatter’s correspondance little over a month before the FIFA Presidential election.

After the ballot, in which England received a mere two votes, it was reported that Prince William, who lobbied hard for England’s cause, had left the 75-year-old Swiss off the invitation list in anger at the result.

The Prince was understood to have been bitterly disappointed at Russia’s landslide victory.
