March 24 – Colombia’s Gerardo Bedoya, widely regarded as the world’s dirtiest footballer, quickly maintained his bad boy reputation in his first game as a senior coach.
Bedoya was sent off 46 times in a 17-year playing career, the most red cards on record, and was suspended 41 times.
This week, Bedoya, 40, was appointed assistant boss of Colombian side Independiente Santa Fe. It brought a 3-2 win against Atletico Junior but Bedoya – who played 49 times for his country – was not there to join in the celebrations having been dismissed after just 19 minutes for berating the referee.
In 2012, he was banned for 15 matches both for an elbow and stamp after which he apologised.
