April 1 – Broadcast preparations for the 2016 Copa America Centenario in the US are progressing with France-based Host Broadcast Services (HBS) being appointed to deliver the pictures and logistics for tv stations worldwide.
Founded in 1999, HBS has carved out as FIFA’s broadcast services partner of choice having delivered the last four World Cups. For the Copa America Centenario, HBS will control all the live match feeds.
The Copa America in the US is the first time the tournament has been played outside the South American continent and will see CONMEBOL’s 10 member associations combined with six from CONCACAF.
Played from June 3 – 26, the tournament will overlap with the UEFA’s 24-team European Championships in France. The US competition will be played across 10 cities.
To cover the event HBS will have a hub overseeing operations in Atlanta (where the satellite distribution of the world feed will be primarily based) and will provide seven ENG crews at venues to gather footage for the online media platform for right holders.
Part of the HBS package include three football directors and English and Spanish language commentators.
HBS will also produce a daily 24-minute highlights programme, as well as an end of event review show –El Centenario’.
