May 4 – Canada’s Soccer Association (CSA) has finished its inspection of the candidate cities for the 2014 FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which were awarded to them earlier this year.
The candidate cities are Vancouver, Halifax, Montréal, Moncton, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton, and the tour took a month from the end of March to the end of April.
The cities were able to showcase their facilities – including stadiums, ancillary venues as well as putting forward their respective benefits.
The Women’s World Cup is the biggest international female competition, and reaches hundreds of thousands of people.
Peter Montopoli, of the CSA, said: “The Canadian Soccer Association wishes to thank all the Candidate Bid Cities for their hospitality over the past few weeks.
“The Association is looking forward to harnessing the momentum initiated by the women’s national team’s participation in this summer FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 to create a one of a kind experience for Canadians across the country.”
Later this year, site visits to the candidate cities will be carried out by FIFA to ensure that they meet official regulations for hosting the tournaments.
The selection of the official host cities will be made early in 2012, with the competition schedule determined later next year.
