Hearts sign sponsorship deal with wonga.com

May 15 – Scottish Premier League outfit Heart of Midlothian has agreed a shirt sponsorship deal with Wonga.com, the online short term loans company, replacing Ukio Bankas from the start of next season.

Wonga.com also sponsor English Premier League clubt Blackpool and is the broadcast partner of the FA Cup alongside ESPN.

Hearts managing director David Southern said: “We are delighted with this new sponsorship deal.

“It is a first for Hearts and for Scottish football and is reflective of our aim to attract new top class corporate partners to Hearts.

“Wonga is an excellent national financial brand with a drive and determination to expand and, as one of the country’s leading football clubs, we are looking forward to developing a partnership that will deliver significant benefits to both parties.”

Wonga.com provide flexible loans for anywhere from a day to a month, which can be up to £1,000 (£1,622) in value.

Customers are also able to settle early, only paying for the time the money was borrowed, and as a result Wonga was recently named Alternative Lender of the Year in the UK Credit Awards.

Their founder and chief executive, Errol Damelin, said: “Hearts is a club with a great history and they are having a really strong season, so we were very keen to support them when the opportunity came up.

“The club shows real class, on and off the pitch, and we’re excited about being involved from next season onwards.

“We have a lot of happy customers in Scotland and, like us, many are passionate football fans, so we are keen for the partnership to benefit supporters, the club and our brand.”
