FIFA warn Indonesian FA over election

Nurdin Halid 2

May 9 – The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) faces censure unless FIFA deems that it has sufficiently reformed following its elections, scheduled for May 20.

In March the FA was set to hold elections but a FIFA member was barred from attending its congress and opponents of the chairman Nurdin Halid (pictured) claimed that they had been denied voting rights.

World football’s governing body banned Halid from standing for election of the organisation along with Arifin Panigoro, George Toisutta and Nirwan Bakrie following the incident.

A Normalisation Committee was appointed by FIFA, who have rejected any possibility of the four banned candidates standing for the elections this month despite protestations.

“We would like to underline that the PSSI electoral appeal committee is not allowed to process the appeal on the eligibility to the PSSI Presidency … as the case has already been decided,” FIFA wrote in a letter.

“We would like to draw your attention once again to the fact that should PSSI fail to abide by this decision it might incur severe sanctions, including the possibility of a suspension.”

Halid, who has previously been jailed for misuse of funds, wanted to run for a third term as President of the Indonesian FA.
