May 16 – More than 120 Spartak Moscow supporters were arrested after a riot during their match against Krylia Sovetov Samara in the Russian Premier League.
More than 300 Spartak fans broke through a police cordon and sparked a brawl as their fans tore up seating, forcing police to respond with tear gas and water cannons.
More than 20 people were injured, with 2,000 seats damaged after a game which the Moscow giants won 1-0.
Various charges of drunken behaviour or resisting arrest will be put to those taken in by police following one of the worst incidents in Russian football in recent times.
The hooliganism is sure to cause concern with the World Cup due to be hosted by Russia in 2018, as well as other key sporting events in the years before, including the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
