Oulala debuts its Euro 2016 DFS games as operators battle for punters

June 7 – Oulala.com, the daily fantasy football platform that launched the monetised version of its games in Europe last October, has launched its Euro 2016 game.

The game, played for cash prizes, allows users to choose football players from all 24 national teams that are competing in France.

The Euro 2016 game format follows that of the regular European league formats, but for the European Championships has a number of extra features. Game players will be able to form their fantasy line-ups for every game day, join or create leagues and compete for cash prizes.

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) have been a huge success in the US market with Draft Kings in particular taking a dominant position. Straddling the grey area of whether they are gambling or not, the US has been working through a process of ‘legalising’ the games in what has rapidly become a billion dollar business.

The sports market in the US has not missed out on the boom, being swift to take the advertising and sponsorship dollars the game platforms have available. US regulators would like to get their hands on the tax dollar potential.

The move into European football markets, and the UK in particular, began at the end of last year and more recently has seen the move of Boston-based Draft Kings across the Atlantic looking to establish a bridgehead in the European football market. The Euro 2016 championships will be a battleground for the operators to build up the playing numbers.

Valery Bollier, Oulala’s CEO, says that DFS is the next big thing arriving in the European market: ”We have seen a huge growth of daily fantasy sports in Europe throughout the last season and we firmly believe that this tournament will give it an extra push,” he said. Bollier emphasizes that the real-time fantasy game product makes the experience of watching the live games even more exciting.

Malta-based Oulala, about to begin and a second round of fund-raising for £7 million, has expanded its product offering to build a BtoB network of iGaming partners.

”After the successful launch of a bespoke Leicester City version of the Oulala fantasy football game, we have begun to offer a white label version of our game to iGaming operators aspiring to enter this fast growing new market. A number of operators have shown interest in our BtoB solution and we have gone on to sign various important deals that will come into effect next season,” said Bollier.

”Our aim is to continue along this path in order to evolve and become the leading Daily Fantasy network for football.”
