June 3 – More people in Washington D.C. saw the Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United last weekend than anywhere else in the United States, new figures have revealed.
The final at Wembley Stadium, which Barcelona won 3-1, drew in an audience of 4.2 million, representing a 91 per cent increase on the 2010 final, when Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich.
In total, 2.6 million saw the game on Fox and 1.6 million on Spanish language channel Fox Deportes.
Washington D.C. was followed by Seattle, New York and Providence as the areas from which most fans watched the game.
Seattle’s increase was the biggest in any one area from last year, going up by 383 per cent.
