July 4 – Germany and a combined bid from Nordic nations are possible candidates to host the 2024 European Championship, according to UEFA interim general secretary Theodore Theodoridis.

Turkey, controversially edged out by France for hosting rights to Euro 2016, had been considered a strong contender but has not yet expressed interest.

“I don’t know if Turkey will like to come back and give it a go,” Theodoridis said at a briefing. “I don’t think so, but you can never know.”

Germany decided to focus on a 2024 bid rather than compete with England to stage the semifinals and final of the pan-European finals in 2020.

The Nordic group of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden said in April they wanted to host the tournament either in 2024 or 2028 and hope to receive the backing  of Aleksander Ceferin if the Slovenian wins the UEFA presidential election on September 14. The other currently declared contender, Michael van Praag, is understood to support  Germany’s bid.
