Twitter stats: Liverpool keep nose ahead of Chelsea as Sunderland find their voice

September 21 – There was a big increase in twitter activity this week with Premier League clubs making nearly 1,400 more tweets taking the weekly total up from 3,650 last week to 5,090 this week. This produced more new followers for the week, up 17,000 from 217,000 to 234,000.

As usual Man Utd topped the weekly new followers table with 63,000, followed by Arsenal 19,000 behind.

But it is below them that there is most movement with Liverpool making the greatest leap from last week’s increase in followers with nearly 5,000, keeping them just ahead of Chelsea, though they still trail them in terms of overall followers.

In terms of tweets, Spurs (430) and Southampton (420), led the way. Both were in European action mid-week.

Sunderland were particularly active with 360 tweets this week, up from 171 previous week.

Not surprising Burnley were the only club not to get more than 2,000 new followers as they tweeted the least: only 100 tweets compared to Bournemouth and Stoke City with 130.
