October 20 – Premier League Tottenham Hotspurs ground redevelopment and associated regeneration of the local area is starting to win awards. The Cannon Road development has been named Affordable Housing development of the year by Inside Housing magazine.
The scheme is one of the first to be delivered as part of the regeneration of the area and is being developed by the club and Newlon Housing Trust.
The award, says a club statement, “recognises how local needs have been met, social value to residents and the wider community and affordability.” The 100% affordable scheme will provide 222 new homes and a new primary school that will take 420 pupils.
Through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation the club provides physical activity lessons including the delivery of 5.5 hours of sports sessions each week.
Daniel Levy, chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We are committed to investing in our community and ensuring local residents have access to affordable housing and quality education facilities.
“This prestigious award is recognition of the fantastic scheme that Newlon Housing Trust has worked hard with us to deliver as part of our continued aims to transform the Tottenham area.”
Cannon Road was officially opened by Tottenham Hotspur and Newlon Housing Trust in November 2015 after the redevelopment of a derelict rubber factory in North Tottenham. As a commitment to sustainability, the site has its own Combined Heat and Power plant and all housing is built to lifetime homes standards.
Spurs’s 61,000-seater new stadium is scheduled to complete for the start of the 2018/19 season at a cost estimated to approach $750 million.
