November 8 – The crisis at Inter Milan, one of Europe’s most iconic clubs, has gone from bad to worse with chief executive Michael Bolingbroke resigning and following sacked coach Frank de Boer out of the club.
Bolingbroke, one of the guest panellists at the Leaders in Sport summit in London last month when he sung the praises of the club, has been replaced by Liu Jun, vice-president of Inter’s new Chinese owner, the Suning Sports group, on an interim basis.
Reports suggest that the former Manchester United executive had fallen out of favour over his backing for de Boer.
Bolingbroke arrived at Inter after the club was purchased by Indonesian entrepreneur Erick Thohir three years ago. Suning, the Chinese retail giant, took control of 70% of Inter in June, with Thohir retaining 30. Suning paid €280 million for their stake as part of an overall that was expected to see them invest €750 million in the club.
Inter are currently ninth in Serie A, 13 points behind leader Juventus, and are bottom of their group in the Europa League with two games to go.
