Neymar tops value list but do Spurs duo Kane and Alli point to shape of things to come?

January 17 – Neymar and not Leonel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the most valuable player in Europe, at €246.8 million,  according to a new study which values 10 players at more than €100 million.

The Barcelona striker is ahead of team-mate Messi, who is valued by the CIES Football Observatory at €170.5 million.

Paul Pogba, who joined Manchester United for a world record fee in the summer, is valued at €155.3 million.

The Premier League has four players in the top 10, two of them from challenger club Tottenham Hotspur – Harry Kane at seven (€139.2 million) and Dele Alli at ten (€110.5 million). There are no players from the Bundesliga in the Top 10, or from France’s Ligue 1.

The CIES calculated individual values using criteria that includes player performance and characteristics such as age and length of contract.

Ronaldo,  Ballon d’Or winner and FIFA’s world’s best player, is seventh on the list while Pogba is the only player in the top five not based in Spain.
