January 24 – The weekly growth in Twitter followers to Premier League clubs last week matched the typical pattern with yet another bumper increase for Manchester United of 89,000 followed by Arsenal with 71,000.
Chelsea continue to hold third place with 41,000, while after a season in third Liverpool are now regularly in fourth with 31,000. Man City are still a distant fifth with 21,000 new followers.
Overall growth in Twitter followers to Premier League clubs was down by 20,000 this week – 334,000 new followers compared to 354,000 last week.
The largest percentage growth came from Middlesborough at 1.50% , closely followed by Hull with 1.49%.
The most tweets this week goes to Burnley with 306 tweets followed by Hull with 292. Hull and its supporters rallied around Ryan Mason after his hospitalisation following a head collision in the match against Chelsea and head collision
Burnley put out lots of short match tweets in their controversial defeat by Arsenal – winning 1-0 until 5 minutes into extra time – then loosing out by two penalties in two minutes. Enough to make anyone choke on their tweets.
