January 31 – All five of London’s Premier League clubs have been caught up in English football’s historical child sex abuse scandal according to police.
Altogether 255 separate allegations of sexual abuse against individuals at 77 named clubs or teams have now been received.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “The breakdown for those clubs is: Five in the Premier League; Three against Championship clubs; Three against clubs in Leagues One and Two; and there have also been 66 other named clubs which would include non-league or non-professional or amateur teams.”
Police forces across the country launched inquiries after a former player Andy Woodward revealed in November he had been abused as a boy by a youth team coach, prompting a stream of other ex-professionals to come forward with allegations.
