The FA faces ‘no confidence’ vote from UK parliament

The FA

February 6 – The English Football Association’s image as an anachronistic body of blazer-wearing conservative officials resistant to reform will come under renewed scrutiny this week when a group of parliamentarians debate a motion of ‘no confidence’ in the governing body.

Britain’s Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee will examine on February 9 whether the FA can “comply fully with its duties”.

In December, British sports minister Tracey Crouch warned that the government would bring in legislation to force through reforms if the FA did not make changes itself – including measures such as gender equality and term limits.

This week’s motion comes after five former FA executives said the governing body had failed to “self-reform”. David Bernstein, David Davies, Greg Dyke, Alex Horne and David Triesman described it as outdated, held back by “elderly white men” and unable to counter the power of the Premier League.
