February 22 – Everton have teed off a media partnership with The Open Championship which will play its 146th Championship at Royal Birkdale in July.
The agreement will see both sides deliver exclusive content to fans prior to the championship and the historic Claret Jug trophy tour will stop by Everton’s USM Finch Farm training ground this month and their Goodison Park stadium.
Everton fans buying an Open ticket between Tuesday 21 February and midnight on Tuesday 28 February will receive an Everton coloured Open Championship cap.
Scott McLeod, head of engagement at Everton said the partnership is “an innovative collaboration between two of sport’s historic names”.
“The North West is home to England’s Golf Coast and many Evertonians will also be golf fans, this media partnership will give our supporters the chance to get closer to one of the world’s greatest sporting events taking place on our doorstep,” said McLeod.
Everton under its new ownership is aggressively marketing its sponsorships with chief executive Robert Elstone announcing a new £75 million training ground naming rights and training kit sponsorship earlier this year. He also said the club was expecting a 300% increase in the club’s shirt sponsorship.
Everton is currently in negotiation with Liverpool City Council to move to a new build stadium on the old docklands.
