Man City top Facebook, Man Utd snap Instagram lead, Chelsea keep building

March 10 – Manchester City continue to dominate growth on Facebook with 133,600 new Facebook likes this week – a 0.57% growth. This is 55,000 more new likes than local rivals Manchester United who grew by 78,780.

In terms of total likes, Man Utd still dominates with 72.7 million followers against Manchester City’s 23.4 million. Chelsea are second in the overall table with 46.7 million likes.

On Instagram it is a different story with Man Utd putting on a massive 141,970 new followers. Man City were fourth, more than 100,000 behind, with 35,780 new followers.

Chelsea in second place on Instagram for the week are slowing climbing back into social media contention across the three platforms of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The Londoners were in the top three on each media, beating London rivals Arsenal on Facebook and Instagram, but coming behind them on Twitter.

At the bottom of the table Burnley and Middlesbrough occupy the bottom two positions on all three platforms. On Instagram Middlesbrough had just 490 new followers for the week.

While Man Utd count their new followers every week in six digits, none of the bottom half of the Premier League clubs had more that 1,700 new followers. A bleak picture of club social media work, or just one out of focus?
