May 1 – The expanded CONCACAF club competitions, including the Champions League, have signed their first major broadcast deal for the new format with FOX Sports Latin America. The five-year deal renews Fox’s existing broadcast deal from 2017/18 to the end of the 2021/2022 season.

No figure was announced for the broadcast rights buy which is exclusive across all platforms for Mexico and South America, as well as exclusive for Pay TV rights and digital platforms for Central America.

The expanded club competition is designed to broaden participation of clubs in international competition, while increasing the competitiveness and relevance of all matches. The platform will now feature 31 club teams – increased from 24 – from the 2017/18 season.

Sixteen clubs will compete in a concentrated Champions League to be played between February and May of each year.

Additionally, starting in August 2017, 16 clubs from Central America and the Caribbean will participate in a new tournament, which will conclude in October.

“The extension of our relationship with FOX Sports Latin America is clear evidence that the most important club competition of our region is continuing to grow in popularity and prestige,” said CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani.
