November 17 – Thomson Sport will be the Euro 2012 Licensed Tour Operator, giving them the rights to the tour operating programme across the 14 countries that successfully went through the qualification process for the tournament.
The company will be operating the programmes for the Republic of Ireland and England, as well as appointing other operators and partners across the countries who have qualified for next year’s European Championships, although rights in Ukraine and Poland, who host the tournament which begins in June next year, are not included in the deal.
Marc Bennett, the managing director of TUI Travel’s Sport Division, the company which controls Thomson Sport, said: “We have a proven track record of delivering both quality and value at a variety of sporting events and are delighted to be appointed as Licensed Tour Operator for such a large scale and popular tournament.
“We look forward to ensuring fans will be able to relax and enjoy the tournament, knowing our experience means they are in trusted and capable hands.
“With Thomson Sport being part of a global organisation, we are also able to draw on a much larger network of travel businesses who will be working together to make sure fans get the best experience possible.”
Thomson was an official tour operator for the World Cup in South Africa last year, and is also the official Euro 2012 accommodation agency for officials, media and commercial partners.
Ukraine and Poland are expected to receive near to 1.5 million supporters during the tournament next year, and full tour packages will be made public after the draw for the finals is made on December 2.
