June 16 – Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium has upgraded to next-generation LED lighting using the Philips ArenaVision LED pitch lighting system. It is the first French stradium to implement the solution which is being hailed as a breakthough for stadium entertainment and provides a greater flexibility for mix-used stadium events.
The 59,286-capacity stadium has integrated dynamic LED pitch and grandstand lighting with moving entertainment color spots. This offers the highest quality pitch lighting, and the ability to enrich the fan experience through light shows for entertainment events including concerts and half time shows.
Xavier Pierrot, stadium manager at Parc OL, said: “We want to offer a whole new dimension to the experience of our spectators. This investment demonstrates once again the commitment of Parc OL to be one of the world’s recognized venues for the organization and staging of major international sports and entertainment events.”
The knock-on effect of the improved lighting is that it adds to the content experience the club uses on other media platforms. Pictures of the game broadcast in ultra-high definition will show the close-up movement and emotions of the players in real-time and in super slow-motion replays in greater clarity on big screens and on the Parc OL app. This is because the LED technology overcomes the flicker commonly associated with conventional lighting systems.
Unlike conventional pitch lighting which can be slow to reach full brightness, Philips ArenaVision LED pitch lighting is instant. This allows clubs to quickly adapt the lighting to their needs by dimming or switching off lighting so that selected parts of the pitch are lit for training or maintenance.
The system is also in use at the Amsterdam Arena in the Netherlands, and Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg, Germany.
