June 22 – On the same day that the English FA were ending their Ladbrokes deal and all brand association with betting sponsors, Burton Albion in the English Football League Championship were announcing the renewal of their shirt sponsorship with Tempobet.
Betting sponsors are a core element of the revenue mix for most clubs and media, few will be able to follow the FA’s moral lead.
On-line gaming firm Tempobet broke Burton Albion’s sponsorship record last season and remains as primary club partner and shirt sponsor for their second season in the second tier of English football.
Burton Albion has a relatively short 67-year history in English football club terms. Tempobet has an even shorter history being founded in 2007. It offers a live betting service, as well as casino, virtual games, binary options and lottery. Among its brand ambassadors is former Real Madrid star and World Cup winner Roberto Carlos.
Tempobet will have branding throughout the Pirelli Stadium, as well as featuring on the club’s training tops.
Fleur Robinson, Burton Albion commercial director, said: “We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with Tempobet. The Championship is a high-profile league and having an international company such as Tempobet as our main shirt sponsors for a second season demonstrates that.”
