June 27 – Manchester City is venturing into the area of eSports promotion and will host its first eSports tournament open to fans in the US – the Man City FIFA 17 Cup – on the Battlefy platform to coincide with the club’s pre-season 2017 tour to the US.
Gamers will play the FIFA17 game on both Xbox One and PS4 and must complete a minimum of 15 games and will be ranked by winning percentage. At the end of the preliminary stage, the top 128 players per platform will qualify for the single elimination, best of three playoffs, which will take place 1-2 July and will be streamed at https://battlefy.com/mancity.
Players have until 29 June to register for the tournament.
Two winners from each console will be flown to Houston and meet Manchester City’s first team on their pre-season tour.
Man City has been a leader in the eSports arena amongst Europe’s big clubs and was the first English Premier League club to sign an official eSports player, Kieran ‘Kez’ Brown, in July 2016.
Diego Gigliani, SVP, Media and Innovation, City Football Marketing, said: “This is a natural evolution for Manchester City. We’ve been very involved with our partner, EA Sports, and the game FIFA for some time. As eSports continues to gain momentum, it makes sense for Manchester City to be part of the action and get closer to our fans, who love playing FIFA as Manchester City.”
